About this tour

Day 1-4

Ngorongoro Crater

Fly into Kilimanjaro airport in the foothills of the famous Mountain. From here you will travel through the Great Rift Valley with your private driver-guide who will be with you throughout your safari. This gives you the flexibility to set the pace of each day, and spend as long as you wish with a wildlife sighting, rather than being swayed by other travellers in your safari vehicle.
You will drive up the side of the Rift Valley Escarpment, stopping on the way to admire the stunning views of Lake Manyara below, before continuing your journey through the coffee farms of the Ngorongoro Highlands where you will spend the next three nights. One day will be spent exploring the small but beautiful Manyara National Park, home to flamingos, hippo, elephant, giraffe, and famed for its tree-climbing lions. This is a great introduction to the area and a great first day on safari. Another day will be spent exploring the unique Ngorongoro Crater, a dormant volcano whose caldera is home to high concentrations of wildlife including black rhino, lion, zebra, elephant and more. The backdrop of the volcano walls makes for some dramatic photographic opportunities.

Day 5-9

Serengeti National Park

Saving the best until last, you will continue your journey past Maasai villages and into the vast savannah plains of the Serengeti where you will spend four nights in a mobile tented camp. The camp moves every few months to provide you the best position for game viewing, and if you are travelling in migration season this should increase your chances of seeing the herds. Whatever time of year, the wildlife in the Serengeti is second to none. Watch herds of elephants roam the plains, lions lounging on the top of rocky kopjes (boulders), cheetahs standing on hills to search for their next meal, and hippos wallowing in large pods in the rivers. There is a huge diversity of birdlife here, too, as well as numerous species of gazelle. With your private safari guide, choose between morning and afternoon game drives, returning to camp for lunch, or fuller days exploring, taking a picnic lunch to enjoy under the shade of an acacia tree. Return to camp in the evenings to enjoy a hot shower and drinks around the campfire, before dining under the stars, listening out for the night time sounds of the bush.

Day 10-14

Zanzibar Coast

After your safari adventures, you will fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean for some beach time. Spend your days here either totally unwinding, soaking up the African sun on the pristine beach and indulging yourself at the superb spa, or enjoying activities on and around the island. There is plenty to keep you busy here, from exploring the crumbling streets of Stone Town, to snorkelling and diving on the marine-rich reefs off-shore.

A preview of the trip

Cradled in the boughs of ancient mahogany trees, ten stilted treehouse suites blend intimacy and romance in cool, leafy surrounds. Spacious bedrooms and sitting rooms float in a sea of green, with generous decks and massive windows opening up to the lush forest.
