Rwanda is also known as Le Pays des Mille Collines (Land of a Thousand Hills) thanks to the endless mountains in this scenically stunning little country. Home to some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas, made famous from the movie Gorillas in the Mist, tracking these giant animals on foot is for many travellers a lifetime dream come true. Gorillas love to eat bamboo shoots and fruits and live mainly on the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes, which is part of the majestic Volcanoes National Park.
To the south, you find the Nuygwe Forest, whose dense forest canopy is home to large chimpanzee and colobus monkey populations.
This small country is also known for its complex and tragic history. But the people, the stunning nature and its safe, very clean and sophisticated capital Kigali, makes visitors coming back to admire this incredibly beautiful country.
