São Tomé and Príncipe
This African island nation, close to the equator, is part of a volcano chain featuring striking rock and coral formations, rainforests and beaches. On the larger island, São Tomé, is the Lagoa Azul lagoon. Ôbo Natural Park, a biodiverse jungle preserve, covers much of São Tomé and is distinguished by Pico Cão Grande, a skyscraperlike volcanic rock.
Príncipe
Príncipe, the sister island, is 140KM north from São Tomé and situated off the west coast of Africa in the Gulf of Guinea, Príncipe has an area of 136 square kilometres (53 sq mi) and a population of approximately 7,000. The island is a heavily eroded volcano speculated to be over three million years old. Here you will discover a place that time forgot and where you feel you have stepped off the edge of the world. It is distinctively West African with a very strong Portuguese influence and this gives it a rhythm of its own which sets it apart from any experiences in East and Southern African.
Príncipe is an adventure. A tiny island topped by a canopy of green broken by spires of primordial rock, join us to discover this magnificent lost world, offering fantastic beaches, jungle exploration, snorkelling, fishing and birdwatching. It is here that you find 2 amazing resorts: Roça Sundy and Praia Sundy.

Interior of the island
Meet the locals on this tiny island nation! Where else can you start up a conversation with a local farmer, greet children on their way to school, dance, or sit at the banco da má língua (the griping bench) and speak the truth?

Omali Lodge
This 30-room property offers the ultimate introduction to São Tomé. Its name, Omali, meaning ‘ocean and source of life’ reflects its location opposite Lagarto Beach. A brilliant base to explore from, the National Museum, São Tomé’s southern beaches, and community-run cacao and coffee farms are all within easy reach for day trips.
Omali itself is renowned for the fresh seafood feasts served at its restaurant, and for its palm-fringed swimming pool and tropical gardens. Close to the airport, it’s is a stay that works for holidaymakers bound for Príncipe, just a short flight away.

Roça Sundy
Situated in the interior of the island is your first stop. Roça Sundy is composed of two perfectly restored plantation houses. The feeling that you are living in a bygone era follows you around and you’ll share this extraordinary experience with the local inhabitants who still live, work and go to school on this unique plantation, where Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity was proven. Activities here are all about the local culture and lush nature on this almost un explored island.

The wild coastline
There are tons of activities on the island, but of course it is also the perfect destination to relax, unwind and get really away from it all.
However, if you do want some inspiration what to do:

Praia Sundy - the beach and pool
Surrounded by tropical forest and with its own private beach, this Luxury Tented Lodge – one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World – is the perfect island hideaway.
There are 15 tented villas dotted amongst tropical almonds and banana trees. Stroll lazily just a couple of seconds and you’ll be on the private golden sandy beach.

Praia Sundy - the tents
Each tent is lined with wood pannels and air-conditioning. They are spacious, with four poster beds, and are decorated with local handicrafts and designer pieces. Floor to ceiling sliding windows open up onto a private terrace with comfy sofas where you can listen to the ocean, and some tents also have magnificent views of the ocean.
You can also find a maxi bar which is replenished daily with local fruits and juices. In the beautifully designed en-suite bathrooms, the freestanding granite baths add a luxurious touch, and you’ll enjoy a range of locally produced toiletries like soaps, oils and creams, which are made at nearby Roҫa Paҫienca.
